AS & A Level Dutch Notes

Qualification update

OCR is currently reforming its GCSEs, AS and A Level in line with the government programme of general qualifications. However, we have made the difficult decision to withdraw from offering AS and A Level Dutch. Efforts were made to find an awarding body to continue the qualifications, but we have not been able to secure alternative arrangements. We regret the loss of any subject from our qualification portfolio and recognise that Dutch makes a unique educational contribution to the curriculum.

  • Read the full update on ‘less taught’ languages

This specification develops an interest in, and enthusiasm for language learning. It helps candidates further develop the skills of listening, reading and writing at a level beyond GCSE. They learn about the culture of countries where Dutch is spoken and become able to communicate with people in these countries.

Benefits

  • Builds on best practice of the GCSE and provides interesting and meaningful assessment.
  • A good basis for further study of languages at higher education.
  • The new listening feature gives candidates an opportunity to demonstrate their ability in this skill.
  • Topics for study have been streamlined.
