Qualification reform

OCR is currently reforming its GCSEs, AS and A Level in line with the government programme of general qualifications. However, we have made the difficult decision to withdraw from offering GCSE Dutch. Efforts were made to find an awarding body to continue the qualification, but we have not been able to secure alternative arrangements. We regret the loss of any subject from our qualification portfolio and recognise that Dutch makes a unique educational contribution to the curriculum.

  • Read the full update on ‘less taught’ languages

This qualification allows students to learn relevant and meaningful contexts, preparing them to use these acquired skills in situations they are likely to encounter in their everyday or professional life. The specification and specimen assessment materials are applicable to both full and short courses.

Benefits

  • Additional topics that are more engaging for the students
  • A speaking test that can be recorded and submitted digitally
  • Short courses – ‘Short Course in Spoken Language’ or ‘Short Course in Written Language’.
