Level 1/2 Award Sport 3750

About Level 1/2 Award Sport 3750 Syllabus

Our Level 1/2 Awards in non-EBacc subjects are ideally suited to learners with a preference for practical, in addition to, theoretical learning. Many of them are tailored towards specific career areas and all have a focus on creativity.

These vocational qualifications fulfil entry requirements for academic and vocational study post-16, and will count as equivalent to one GCSE in the Key Stage 4 performance tables.

Who is this Level 1/2 Award in Sport for?

This qualification is designed for 14–16 year olds who want to learn about sports coaching, officiating or organising sporting events in a practical setting that helps them develop the knowledge, skills and experience that could open the door to a career in the industry.

What will learners study?

Learners complete three mandatory units (one externally assessed and two internally assessed) across 120 guided learning hours.

Unit 1: Practical player performance (internally assessed)

Learners develop player performance in two sports activities chosen from the directory in this specification. They will also develop their ability to plan, evaluate and analyse their own performances.

Unit 2: Coaching and officiating or organising a sports event/activity (internally assessed)

Learners can coach a sport of their choice. This may be a group or individual activity, depending on the needs of the learner, peer group and school or college. They will also have the choice of officiating or organising a sports event or activity.

Unit 3: The sports industry (externally assessed)

Learners will study the fundamentals of the sports industry and its organisations, knowledge of which will be relevant when considering future career choices.

Will the knowledge and skills developed be useful for further studies?

The course will develop a wide range of practical sporting skills incorporating agility, balance, coordination, reactions and timing. Learners will understand the technical and tactical demands of the sports they choose to study in addition to a variety of transferable skills such as self-appraisal, evaluation, leadership, communication, decision making and problem solving.

Learners will also have an increased awareness of the positive effects of sport on the general health and wellbeing of individuals as a result of completing this qualification.

Which subjects complement this course?

This Level 1/2 Award in Sport complements vocational qualifications including Health and Social Care, IT, Fitness Training and Performing Arts.

It’s also a great partner for GCSE PE, Biology, Psychology, Sociology, Maths and English Language.

Upon completion, learners can progress to Technical Certificates and other Level 3 vocational qualifications such as BTEC National Diploma in Sports and A-levels.
